Second Bite At The Cherry For Team Botswana

On May 2, Team Botswana steps back onto the track carrying the weight of expectation and the promise of redemption as three relay teams line up in the repechage round.

In athletics, the repechage round offers a second chance.

Teams that missed out on automatic qualification in the heats are given another race, but with high stakes: only the top two in each heat will advance to the World Athletics Championships in Beijing next year.

Botswana’s campaign begins at 14:10 with the mixed 4x100m relay team in Heat 2, lane one, up against Switzerland, India, Australia, China, Mexico, New Zealand and Poland.

At 14:31, the mixed 4x400m team lines up in lane three in another challenging Heat 2 alongside Uganda, South Africa, the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany and Nigeria.

The women’s 4x100m team will be at 14:55 from lane eight in Heat 2, facing Ethiopia, South Africa, Belgium, Brazil, Australia and Poland.

For Botswana, the mission is clear; seize this second chance, finish in the top two, and book a place on the global stage.
